Getting Cheap Flights with your British Airways Amex Card – Avios Points

Travelling smart with an American Express Card! The best thing we ever did as a couple, was start using avios points for travel. It’s great for getting cheap flights. As a couple, we got an American Express British Airways Premium credit card, the card does cost £300 for the year but we use it for everyday spends together.
As a couple, we use this card for our everyday spending, earning 1.5 Avios points for every £1 we spend. Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement of any credit card. If you have an American Express card, be mindful of the high interest rates and ensure that you only spend within your means.
If you spent £6000 within 3 months, you will gain 30,000 avios points which is amazing as we used 60,000 to travel to the Maldives with a companion voucher – therefore you are already half way there! These deals can change quite often and sometimes they can be better or worse.
£6000 is a lot of money, it is hard as an individual to spend this, but as a couple it is easier if you put all your spends on the card. We do this together, even put individual spends on and keep track of what we spend and spilt the bill at the end of the month.
Referring people you will also gain 9,000 points after they spent a certain amount- this is also an amazing way to build up those avios points.
Using Avios Points
When you sign up, you will need to sign up for Avios points with British airways. on the 28th of the month, points spent from your American Express will transfer across to your account.
You can book flights on the avios website, and you can click on spend flights and reward flights. As previously mentioned we booked our flights to the Maldives with our Avios points & companion voucher which cost £150 per person. (including baggage)
Companion Voucher
Another perk with American Express Premium Card, once you spent over £15,000 you will get a companion voucher. A companion voucher is 2 for 1 on flights or 50% off flights if you are travelling on your own.
The companion voucher is valid for 12 months.
How to book flights with Avios and Companion Voucher?
You will need to head to here and log in with your account.
Search for your destination and dates. If the destination and dates aren’t showing, we found that if you check everyday you will find different dates and destinations. You will need to hold out until the place and dates you are wanting are on there. I would highly recommend booking in advance to make sure you secure the flights you want.
Always make sure you select to use your companion voucher when booking.

Other Benefits with American Express Premium Card
Another benefit of the American express card as well as the building up Avios points for travel. You can get cashback on certain retailers and you can even get cashback on Uber Eats. You can also get cashback on services such as insurance. On travel (you can get 10% cashback with LNER and Avanti West Coast) and at restaurants.
