Lisbon really is one of my favourite cities. If you’re planning a trip here, choosing the right neighbourhood to stay in can shape your entire experience. I stayed in two different areas.
Chiado
My first time in Lisbon, I stayed in the area of Chiado. This area is perfect place to stay when visiting. I would highly recommend staying here and in this hotel Solar dos Poetas.
Pros
- Central Location, close to shops & restaurants/bars.
- Great transport links, it was only a 10 minute walk to the train station where you can go on day trips to Cascais or Sinatra.
- Lively atmosphere
- Safe area
Cons
- It can be expensive to stay in this area as its touristy
- Tourist spot
- It can noisy
- Hilly, but most of Lisbon is hilly haha!
Saldanha
After doing my road trip in Portugal, I was flying out of Lisbon and decided to stay in a different area of the city. As I really wanted a hotel with a pool. The hotel I stayed in was Luster Hotel, The facilities are incredible, sauna, indoor and outdoor pool, the rooms are incredible. The staff were so hospitable, I created a video on my Tik Tok. Click here to see.
Pros
- Easy access to transport links
- Closer to the airport
- More hotels around here which have pools!
- More modern, I would say its more of a commercial business hub in this area.
- Quieter
Cons
- Not a central location – To walk to the centre of the city from my hotel it was around 40 minutes. If you are staying out on an evening, you will probably need to get an uber back. (Ubers are so cheap in Lisbon)
- Not an ideal area to stay in if you are wanting more historic charm and streets, or nightlife
