The famous £99 Wowcher Mystery Holiday, is it really worth it? I am going to give you a honest Wowcher Mystery Holiday Review! We booked a Wowcher Mystery Holiday in Summer 2024. I have always wanted to do one, as I love the mystery element of not knowing where you will be going and you do hear of people getting some great places. Plus, there is nothing better than someone sorting your whole trip out for you!

I will provide you with my full honest review, we purchased our mystery holiday in July 2024, and you will need to redeem the wowcher to find out where you are going.

Where to purchase the Mystery Holiday?

You can purchase the mystery holiday here.

They will provide you with the below options when booking. As we flew from Manchester we had to pay £129, but we did find a 20% discount code.

Top Tip: Try and find a discount code, a lot of influencers might have them on there instagram page. Also, you can usually find one when searching on google.

The Booking of the Mystery Holiday

We redeemed our Wowcher voucher and were allocated Warsaw. However, the dates they offered us didn’t work because it was a family member’s birthday. When you buy the voucher, they do ask which months you’re available to travel, so I thought this would be fairly straightforward to sort.

As we couldn’t do the dates, I had to contact the company that deals with the mystery holidays, which was Weekender Breaks at the time. I believe it’s now Travelodeal.

The company might be better now, but honestly, I had an awful experience trying to get through to them to change our dates.

Because the mystery holiday deals change daily, they could no longer offer us Warsaw. The other options they gave us all came with extra costs, which we weren’t willing to pay. We’d booked a £99 mystery holiday (which actually cost us £129 as we weren’t flying from a London airport), so the idea was to get a cheap city break. Paying extra was making it more expensive than booking the trip ourselves, which defeats the whole point!

They were trying to get us to pay an extra £40–£90 each and couldn’t seem to offer us anything else. We ended up calling them multiple times over a two-week period and still wasn’t getting anywhere.

I explained that we weren’t willing to pay any extra. I know this might sound a bit tight, but I do think it’s unfair to advertise a £99 mystery holiday and then try to get you to pay more when you can’t make the dates offered.

Thankfully, we eventually managed to get a deal for Paris, but it took hours on the phone to sort out!

I’d never been to Paris before, and it turned out to be such a cool city. So, although the experience of booking the holiday wasn’t great, I’m glad we ended up going to Paris.

The Actual Holiday

I could finally start getting excited for our trip, but as we didn’t want to pay more for the flights. They provided us with rubbish flights times, we flew at 4pm in the afternoon on the Tuesday, had the full day in Paris on the Wednesday and on the Thursday morning we flew back at 12pm.

The airport in Paris which we flew into was Beauvais airport, at the time I didn’t realise how far away from Paris it was. But, it was over an hour away from the city centre!

The buses come regularly from Beauvais, but to get to Paris city centre, it was around 1 and a half hour drive. The bus then dropped us off at Saint Dennis and we got the metro into Montmartre, if you need to go into the city centre you will also need to get the metro, I believe Saint Dennis is the closest stop to the city.

As our hotel was quite far from the centre, we decided to get the metro into Montmartre and spend the evening there.

We stayed at Hotel Reseda in Bagnolet, which was around a 40-minute metro journey from the city centre and Montmartre. The hotel itself was basic but clean, and all the hotels offered through Wowcher need to be at least 3-star. We also knew we wouldn’t be spending much time in the hotel anyway, so we didn’t mind too much.

The only downside was how far away it was from the centre, as it did mean spending more time travelling around Paris.

Would I book a Wowcher mystery holiday again?

The holiday itself was amazing! We visited Paris just before the 2024 Olympics, so we got to see all the preparations taking place around the city. I’m not usually a city person, but I absolutely loved Paris. My favourite place was Montmartre, and of course, all the yummy pastries were a bonus!

I would bear in mind before booking a wowcher mystery holiday that the flight times might not work out to full two days and the hotel will be far out from the centre of your destination. As the travelling back from the city centre in Paris, after a busy day of sight seeing was a struggle but still manageable.

I would not book a mystery holiday again, I am glad we decided to experience it. I do feel for the price of the holiday its good value, although I do believe you could plan a weekend yourself for a similar cost if you keep an eye out for cheap flights on Skyscanner or Trip.

Although Paris is such a cool destination and it is usually expensive to travel to Paris. As we went just before the Paris Olympics, it was so cool to see the set up but a lot of the sights weren’t available to see as they had construction work in front of them. I remember checking myself to see how much it was to go and it was similar to what we paid for the mystery holiday.

Plus, the experience of the organising through the travel company was a nightmare. I spent hours trying to organise it with them.
